'Wallace
& Gromit' at the Movies
a
production of the 'Beyond the Box Special Interest
Group
Sponsored
by Little-cars

Let's start at the
beginning. This is a hobby, and a hobby should be fun ...
So, I suppose when a few of my fellow modellers suggested
something silly whilst attending SMW 2005, I sort of agreed
to be their leader (what do they say in the military, never
volunteer?), ah well someone's got to!
Anyway, long story short, we formed the 'Beyond the Box'
SIG, a bunch of like minded loonies all in one pot, so you
can imagine what sort of crazy schemes we're going to come
up with. In 2006 we had the very successful 'Anti-Pesto'
build where we used the Airfix A35 Van and figures from the
Aardman film, 'Curse of the Were-Rabbit', resulting in over
30 unique converted models and figures. Last year, 2007, we
had the 'Wacky Racers' build, unfortunately
not as successful, but a lot of fun never the less.
2008 will see the return of 'Wallace & Gromit', this
time the theme will be 'At the Movies' . Some
of the ideas put forward so far ...
The Great Escape,
Dam Busters, Star Wars, Beverly Hills Cop, Easy Rider
...
Those are just a few
of thousands of possible titles, obviously, the models
associated with the film titles above will be given the
'Beyond the Box' treatment. As an example, I chose the 'Dam
Busters' theme. The Airfix aircraft from the Wallace &
Gromit series will have Gromit as the pilot, no doubt a
suitable name will be found, c/w white scarf and goggles.
The aircraft will be converted to carry 4 Merlin engines and
an underslung mini edam cheese ... The (e)Dam Busters, get
the picture? ... ooooh!
So, we need your involvement to make this build the best
yet. The build will start on December 25th 2007 and run
until the weekend of SMW 2008. All models will be displayed
at SMW 2008 on the 'Beyond the Box' SIG table(s) .. pretty
please Richard. If you would like to join in this mayhem,
there are a couple of rules which have to be observed, yes,
there have to be rules.
- (1) The model has
to be your own work.
- (2) The theme
character(s) to be taken from a motion picture.
- (3) Any model
produced must feature either a 'Wallace' or 'Gromit'
figure or both.
- (4) The figures
may be taken from the Airfix range of Aardman associated
kits or scratchbuilt to fit into your chosen scale.
- (5) The figures
may be altered or modified to fit your chosen theme.
- (6) Enjoy the
experience.
I'll need your IPMS number, the film you've chosen and
your email address, so, come on, let's have those
registrations.
