the models of ... Ian Hartup A brief history of life, the universe and everything even involving the number 42, at least until March. Born 9 months to the day after England last fielded a winning football side, I grew up in the North having abandoned the South at an early age. Introduced to plastic modelling by my Dad on my sixth Birthday. Joined the IPMS circa 1980, another birthday pressie from Dad. Jesse Wright a true Gentleman sent me my first card and mags with a handwritten note welcoming me to the Society. I remember attending a Stoneleigh event with my latest kit in a box and then seeing Chris Gannon in the same junior class and putting the model back in the car! Kept modelling throughout my teenage years (girls, there were lots of girls!) and the expense of motorbikes and cars (did I mention girls?). After a period in charge of my local branch circa early '90s I formed the 'What If' SIG at those Peterborough nationals (lights what bloody lights?). Original line up for the SIG THC, Radish, Biggles, Mike McEvoy and Bri D. Subsequently I ended up on the National Committee no less, I know mad impetuous fool! After resigning from same found myself writing for Neil 'Lucky' Robinson's QSM and SSM mags and sort of by default ended up editing two fabulous magazines which all went slightly pear shaped after my head went to an early and extended lunch one Thursday afternoon. Subsequently divorced, sold up kit collection, found new wife, discovered automotive modelling mainly in the space of one Sunday at a Brampton / St Neots model show. Currently building what is going to be a huge display of GP Yamahas, F1 Ferrari's and a representation of the Japanese F1 Grid from 1976, James Hunt, Nikki Lauda and all that (yeah I know!). What follows are some pictures of my recent output (I had a good 2009). Ian Hartup.
Fujimi FORD GT40 LeMans 1966 ... The car driven to victory by Chris Amon and Bruce McLaren in Henry Ford Jnr's famous dead heat that wasn't. A real pig of a kit spoilt by poor transparencies and a sub standard decal sheet. Having said that it still makes a nice and generally accurate GT40 and completes a set of Chris Amon's cars in my collection. Paint by yes you guessed it Zero Paints although the clear coat is by Johnsons to get a more appropriate scale effect.
Welcome to the Members' Model Gallery. To have your models featured here, simply submit your photographs to me. Please also consider sharing your models with a wider audience by submitting an article of your build to the Editor of the IPMS (UK) members magazine. You should include your name, membership number, and brief details of the model submitted, i.e; (manufacturer, scale, oob / converted, aftermarket bits & pieces used, hints and tips on building the model which you think would be useful to other modellers), that sort of thing. The model should be reasonably well lit and in focus and posed on a suitable uncluttered background, no weird colours or patterns please. Size of photograph is not a problem, (benefits of broadband), but I may crop and resize the photo. So, what are you waiting for? ...
